Interview with Iain McLaughlin
· When did you first start singing and playing guitar?
I was 16 when I started playing guitar but I didn’t start singing then.
· When did you start performing?
I was 16 as well when I started performing in pubs, SCY in Culloden and doing town shows.
· When was your first gig?
When I was 18 I started playing gigs in Hoots and then got a job there. My manager put me in for Battle of the Bands in Hoots without telling me. I was still performing in SCY and doing open mic nights as well.
· How did you meet the other band members?
I met the other band members through work and Uni at Napier in Edinburgh.
· How long did it take to make the album?
It took 8 years altogether to write the music and do the recording.
· Who were your musical influences when writing the album?
There were lots of influences but Nirvana and Mark Lanegan were some of the main influences.
· What festivals did you play at this summer?
Belladrum, Rockness, B Festival, Summer In The City and supporting Status Quo.
· Which festival was your favourite to play at?
I liked playing at all of them but Summer In The City was really good and Belladrum as well because there was time to enjoy it.
· What do you think of the Inverness music scene?
It’s great! There’s lots of us and it’s a good energy.
· What do you think of the venues in Inverness?
There’s enough of them. It would be difficult for people who don’t play in pubs.
· Are you writing any new music just now?
I’m trying! I’m writing music just now but not lyrics. There might be an EP at the end of the year.
· Have you got any gigs coming up?
We’re supporting Turin Brakes this month. We’ll be playing in Madhatters in November and also on Boxing Day.
· Do you have any advice for people trying to get into the music industry?
"Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t!"
