Starting off the night was Searching For Donkeys who are an indie/ rock band from Inverness. The band is made up of Graeme Gilchrist - Guitar/Vocals, Gordon Ross - Lead Guitar, Colin Larkman - Bass, and Barry MacFarlane - Drums. The band have been together for just over a year and are about to begin recording. There are plans for playing some festivals this year and also going to Glasgow and Aberdeen. I've heard the band play a couple of times before acoustically but they sounded a lot 'rockier' at the gig which sounded really good!
Next on was Kilmarnock band Mechanical Smile. The alt/ rock band is made up of Dawn Marshall - singer and guitarist, Garry Irving - Guitarist, Nic Pilmer - Bass, and Murray Baxter - Drummer. This gig was part of their Scottish tour and also the first time they've ever played in Inverness. The band have been together since 2009 and have released two Ep's and are also going to be releasing their debut album. I think what made the band different (but still very good) was having female lead vocals, which you don't hear as often with heavier bands.
After Mechanical Smile was Inverness band Naked Red. The band is made up of Andy Forbes - singer and guitarist, Garth Coates - bass, Stephen Sinclair - guitarist, and Jamie Douglas - drummer. They released an EP a couple of years ago and started recording an album last year. The band also have gigs coming up at Brew at the Bog and the Market Bar. I've also seen Naked Red a couple of time before and love their music.
Last to play was Culann who are an alt/ rock band from Irvine. The band is made of PJ Kelly - singer and guitarist, Sean Kelly - drummer, Greg Irish - guitarist, Ross McCluskie - keyboard, and Calum Davis - bass. They have just finished their Scottish tour and have plans to play gigs in Dundee, Stirling and are also playing the Tiree Music Festival this year. Last year in December they released their debut album 'Culann'. Their music is very catchy and definitely not the kin you can just stand still whilst listening to!
