My sister Olivia did this review and photos! I have to say I'm very impressed considering it's her first review!
So the night started off with The Haar who are a young band from Forres. They’ve officially been together for two years with various line ups but this was their first gig. The band is made of Frankie Haymer (drums), Carl Kleintges (vocals), Nathan Reade (bass for the gig but normally guitarist) and Bob Crutchley (normally on guitar but could not make it to the gig) . There was a good crowd already at The Loft and The Haar got the night off to an excellent start. They did covers from bands such as A Day To Remember and Slipknot. When they played The Final Episode by Asking Alexandria the first death wall of the night occurred and the Haar kept this energy going for the rest of their set. This may have been their first gig together but hopefully there will be more to come soon as the band are keen to play wherever they can get the chance to! (they also like cats)
Next up was Guy At The Hot Dog Stand from Elgin and Lossiemouth, the band have been together since 2010 after getting together for a school talent show. The band includes Ross Jenkins (Guitar and Vocals), Sean Ellis (Guitar and Vocals), Cameron Fordyce (Drums) and Chris Brebner (Bass and Backing Vocals). Guy At The Hot Dog Stand have a punk rock/pop feel about them and had a funny vibe through their song lyrics and chit chat in between songs. They did their own songs as well as a Man Overboard cover. Their last song was about a very famous actor *cough* Will Smith *cough*, which got the whole crowd chanting along to the repeated lyrics!
After Guy At The Hot Dog stand was Rise With Honour from Aberdeen, who’ve been together for 2 years. The band is made up of Graeme Mcdonald (vocals), Scott Forrest (guitar), Darren Cruickshank (guitar), Callum Hutchinson (bass) and Connor Munn (drums). Rise With Honour kept the crowd moshing throughout their set with their rock/ metal music. Everyone seemed to really like it and they are definitely a band worth going to see!
Next up was The Dava Way who are a band from Forres, and have been together since 2011. The band includes Lewis Cheetham (Vocals), Dan Brettell (Lead Guitar/Rhythm), Sam Ellison (Lead Guitar/Rhythm), Daniel O'Neill (Bass Guitar) and Andrew Laughton (Drums). The Dava Way finished the lead up to Dividing the Silence. They describe themselves as melodic/metalcore/hardcore and that just about sums them up! They got an amazing response from the crowd and as they are local I think we will be seeing a lot more of them!
Last of all was Dividing The Silence who are a band from Aberdeen who have been together for 3 years. The bands made up of Connor Milne (Vocals), John Forrest (Bass/Vocals), Owen Evans (Guitar), Robbie Sneddon (Guitar) and Evan Hill (Drums). The crowd had somehow kept their energy up throughout the whole gig and showed no sign of sitting down yet. Everyone in the crowd seemed to really enjoy the band’s music and the young metal band were a great way to end the night and definitely worth going to see if you get the chance.
The gig was really good and all the bands were amazing. The Loft is a lovely venue and the last time I was there the ground moved whenever someone jumped, now it can hold lots of people without the risk of falling through! It’s still the nice wee venue it used to be with a brilliant atmosphere and it was an excellent night!
