The Easter Showcases at the Ironworks were so good! There was a mixture of local and not so local bands and singers on both of the nights, starting off with Mir first on Sunday night, who are a four piece blues/ rock'n'roll band. I really liked their music and it was a good way to start the night off! Next on to play a few songs were Against All Flags who are a three piece punk band. After Against All Flags it was Emma Mitchell with Rachel Campbell on the violin and also Rob Ellen for a couple of songs. I love her music and she sounded amazing! She also had her song Telling Stories recorded live by Nut Productions during the showcase. Next on was Naked Red who are an acoustic/ rock band from Inverness. Their music is really good and they're definitely worth seeing! After Naked Red was Red Ronson (little bit of a 'red' theme going on here!) This was the first time I'd heard Red Ronson who are a folk/ pop band, but I would definitely go see them again! Next on was Washington Irving who were another band that I'd never heard before but love now! They're a folk/ rock band and definitely worth seeing! Next on was Lionel who are a folk/ rock band from Inverness. The band haven't been together for long but already have a great set of music! Last to play on Sunday was Iain McLaughlin & The Outsiders. They are a rock band from Inverness and are very very good! I've seen the band quite a few time now and they were definitely a good way to end the first showcase!
Easter Showcase at the Ironworks - Monday 1st April
The second showcase was amazing and I loved seeing some new bands and of course Red Kites again (4th time I've seen them I think!) Starting off the showcase on Monday was Ailsa Jean Lyall Mathews who is a singer/ songwriter from Muir of Ord. I really like her music and have also seen her once before. Next on was Dougie Burns with what seemed to be an ever growing band throughout the set! Joining him for the showcase was Connor Meeks, Ross Marquis, Ross MacDonald, Alastair Davies and Elizabeth Garrow. Next on was Alice Bentley who is a singer/ songwriter from Dingwall. I really liked her music and loved her cover of Ho Hey by The Lumineers. Next on to play was The Little Mill of Happiness who are a grunge/ rock band from Inverness. Next on was All Hat No Cat who dedicated their song Highland Blues to Gig'n'Mix which was very cool! I really liked their music and thought they sounded really good! After All Cat No Hat was Chasing Owls who are an indie/ rock band from Edinburgh. I'd never heard the band before but I really liked them! Next on were Blue Gum Ears who were quite good. They didn't really play the sort of music I like but other people in the crowd seemed to like it (especially the three people at the front trying to start a mosh pit!) Last on was Red Kites who I'd been so excited about seeing since I saw they were announced to be playing! They are definitely one of my favourite bands and I love their music a lot! The band were joined by new member Jan Cees Samson and also JJ who was covering for Craig Ferguson who is also new in the band. They are definitely worth seeing and will hopefully be back playing in the Highlands soon!
