After not being to any gigs in over a month, I was really excited about seeing Fatherson and it was definitely worth getting excited about! I'e loved this band for quite a while now and their music seems to be getting better and better.
Starting off the night was Alice Bentley who is a young singer/ songwriter from Dingwall. She was also joined by her friends Fin and Lauren on the fiddles. I had a bit of a blonde moment and looked at the wrong bus times through to Inverness so I missed the first couple of songs but the rest of the set was really good and her music is so well written. Some of the songs she played were 'French Fries', 'Scottish Rain', a really good cover of 'Pumped Up Kicks' by Foster The People and a little ceilidh song as well which sounded amazing (everyone loves a ceilidh song!) Alice is moving to mexico soon so sadly there will be no more local gigs from her for a while but I'm sure once she's back you'll be able to catch one of her gigs again!
Next support act was Inverness band Silver Coast. Another really good choice of support act and they were definitely a good band to put on before Fatherson. They have only been together for around a year but they already definitely have a lot of support. It was nice to have two completely different sounding support acts, with Alice's more laid back music and Silver Coasts slightly heavier more rock sound music. I've actually only seen the band once before this gig so it was good to be able to hear them again and I'll hopefully get to lot's more of their gigs! I really like their music and they are definitely worth going to see.
So, Fatherson were amazing as always. They were actually the last band I had seen before this gig so it was nice to see them again! It becomes obvious going to their gigs that the Glasgow band have a lot of supportive fans which is not a surprise really when they're releasing such good music! It's always nice going to gigs and hearing the whole crowd singing along. some of the well known songs which were included in their set were 'Hometown', 'Gone Fission', 'First Born', 'James', and their new song which the tour was named after 'I Am An Island'. Their music is so well written and it's understandable why so many people love their catchy songs. Hopefully Fatherson will be bak playing in the Highlands soon!
