So, it's coming to the end of the year for gigs and although I've not been to many recently, the ones I have been going to have been amazing. This showcase was definitely another one to ass to the long list of really good gigs I've been to this year! I had never been to Strathpeffer Pavilion before this gig but I would definitely go back, it's such a cute little venue (although it is quite far away from Nairn!)
Starting off the night was Dr Wook otherwise known as Kris Douglas, also in the band The Whiskeys. I really like The Whiskeys and Kris is just as good as a solo musician. He started off the set with 'Down The Line' and then went on to sing a number of his other songs including 'Grace From Below' which I really liked, because who doesn't like songs played using a banjo! His songs sounded really good with the loop pedal as well and it gave the end of his set a pretty dramatic effect with the drum looping. I would definitely recommend going to see Dr Wook.
Next on was Donald MacDonald and the Islands from Glasgow. Although I've heard this band quite a few times on Rapal TV and Belladrum BBC Alba, I've never actually seen them live. They're definitely an amazing live band though and their indie/ folk music is really catchy and very very good! They got quite a few people in the crowd dancing which was nice to see! Hopefully they'll come back up this side of the country and play more gigs soon.
So, next on was Anderson McGinty Webster Ward and Fisher (AMWWF if I need to type their name again!) They are pretty much one of my favourite bands and probably one of the most talented bands I've ever seen, who knew you could fit so many instruments onto one stage! They played quite a few new songs which was nice to hear and I definitely can't wait for the to be released. They also played a few originals including 'Oh Danna', The Pigeon Song' and then ending with '(Might As Well) Trust In Me'. They were amazing as always and I definitely can't wait to see them again.
Finishing off the night was Three Blind Wolves. They're another band that I really like and it was nice to see them play again. I only saw the first four songs of their set because it was starting to get a bit late and we had over an hour drive home. What I did see though sounded really good and I managed to hear 'Parade' which is my favourite one of their songs! Hopefully they'll do more gigs up in to Highlands soon too!
